Chevron in Castro Valley. Note: the tank holds 16 gallons. Yes, I ran out of gas. Walked half a mile to buy a gas can and 2 gallons of gas. Walked back, drove back to the gas station, and filled the tank. On this tank, I drove from Napa to Santa Cruz, then the next day to San Jose, Oakland, Anthony Chabot Regional Park. Today to San Mateo and back to Anthony Chabot, then back to Castro Valley, intending to go to Hayward. But, no. End odometer 126,489.

Comfort, TX, to a god-forsaken Exxon station in Bakersfield, TX, 40 miles short of Fort Stockton, TX, where there are more gas stations and lower prices. As you can see, I wouldn't have made it. I drove all the way from Comfort at 75 mph, trying to make up enough time to arrive at Brantley Lake State Park in New Mexico before dark. End odometer 122,412.
