The stars must have aligned just right on this tank! A couple of things though: 1. I adjusted tire pressure to 40 pounds at the beginning of the tank, which is where I like to run them but I noticed the right front was down a little bit. 2. I had to have the 60,000 mile service, during which an exhaust flap that was stuck in the open position had to be changed. This is a known problem for VW so it is reimbursable by them up to 120,000 miles, which is good because it is nearly $400.00 bucks to fix. 3. Most of the tank was straight commuter miles on secondary highway and I was trying to be a bit easy on it because the engine light was on (exhaust flap issue). 4. The stock tires (Hankooks) are just about down to the wear bar and I don't know if that hinders or helps mileage, but they are about to get replaced. Still trying to determine what I want for tires. So, maybe those things all helped to get what I think is my best tank mileage.

This tank had a couple of 150+ mile interstate trips (two in which I was messing with Ian in his Ford F150 and driving "sportily" we'll call it) with multiple passengers and the last bit of it, and the first bit of the next tank I log, there was two people and a 300 pound bandsaw. Also, at mile 58736 or so, the check engine light came on and stayed lighted through several stops and restarts. About a day and half later I started the car and the engine light did not light. Possibly after a regen, but not certain.

a bunch of interstate driving on this tank, so probably not going to be great. I wonder if driving on the original tires still and really needing to replace them is affecting mileage.

The next entry will be the first full tank without snows and steel rims. Only about 145 miles or so of this tank were on OEM tires and rims. I still need to adjust the air pressure a bit since the tire pressure warning light went off. Looking to upgrade summer tires. I don't like the bridgestones that came on the car much.

We must have gotten through the Winter Diesel supply or something. The prices are edging (slower than they went up!) down and it looks like my mileage may be on the upswing too. I need to take the snows off now that the Nor' Easter that was threatening us has passed harmlessly out to sea, Sorry Nova Scotia, but you're on your own with this one!

This tank is going to suck! Nearly half of it was driving in heavy snow, slippery conditions, with knuckleheads in front of me, and a lot of stopped traffic. If you don't know how to drive in snow, or you don't have snow tires (yes you too dip-shit SUV operators {not drivers!}) or if you are just afraid of driving in snow, then do us all a favor and stay home or wherever you are but stay off the damn roads! You suck!

I think this tank is going to be decent, since the January thaw has been with us for about a week and a half or so. But, the bottom fell out of the thermometer yesterday and plunged us back into sub-zero temps. who knows what the next tank will be for mileage!
