Maintenance: Wheel Bearing: right rear KMH Auto, Keith did another great job of keeping Greyce going. He showed me the bearing he replaced and it was toast! I'm a little surprised that my mileage wasn't more negatively affected.

Top Notch Tire and Auto (Peterborough, NH): Jeff and Melissa are truly Top Notch! Schedule repairs with them with confidence! OEM Front rotors, pads, and calipers. The new brakes seem fine. and the car seems to ride better. The left front inside pad was worn more than the outside and so I think there was a bit of sticking or something. I felt a bit of drag on that side back when I took the car to the St Paddy's Day Phil and Friends show in Port Chester, NY.

Mileage has been sucking bad lately and I started feeling brake issues. I had the brake job done on the rears with non oem parts; just rotors and pads. Bad plan, I started having a caliper hang up, so I went back in for calipers, figured remanufactured would be ok. Bad plan number two. One caliper (right rear) started leaking, had it changed out, then the left rear started hanging. I finally said fuck the dumb shit and got reimbursed fro all the crap parts and got oem everything and had the hand brake cables changed. One of the rubber boots on the end of one cable was pulled off and the cable not functioning well. I think that my mileage numbers will return to normal now. Driving the car this morning it felt right.

At mile 72375 (1/9/15 4:00pm) the glow plug indicator started flashing while on the highway, lost almost all power and limped to the next exit. Turned the car off, read in the manual that the indicator was Engine Cooling Malfunction. THIS IS INCORRECT it actually indicates a major malfunction, stop and get to technical service ASAP. I started the car and it seemed to run ok, I went 5 miles and it shit again. Stopped and started and it went again for 9 miles, stopped and started engine light came on now and it got me the rest of the way home about 20 miles. I pulled a code with a borrowed code reader and got a P0299 #07ES Turbocharger/Supercharger underboost code. I called Keith at KMH Auto in Lowell. We determined I could drive it to his shop on Monday. I brought it in for what we thought was going to be a wastegate actuator change, but that wasn't it. It ended up being frozen turbo intercooler plumbing. Which VW has a TSB on. I need to look into it. He got it cleaned out by swabbing and running the car with the plumbing not connected and swabbing again. It's been running ok since. The mileage is going to suck though.

71717 Rear brake job. Brought the car in to Topnotch Tire and Auto in Peterborough, NH to have the rear pads and rotors replaced. Jeff and Melissa, as always did a great job. Jeff showed me several of the reasons why it was best to bring the car in to have it done; needing to torch heat a couple of the twelve point star driver brake pad bracket bolts located on the back side of the hub and still needing an impact driver to get them being just one! This is not a seventies or eighties simple car! I think I go my money's worth out of those brake parts though! Nearly 72,000 miles on them! The price listed here for the job includes a Veteran discount. Thanks Jeff and Melissa!

I put new tires on: 205/55R-16 Pirelli P6000 Asimmetrico tires $99.00 each $396.00 plus $$53.64 shipping from Tire Rack Order Total Including Shipping: $449.64 These are dedicated Summer tires so I'm not sure how long they will last, but from the first hundred miles, they seem pretty nice. The road noise is down considerably, I can still feel the road, they seem responsive. I think they are a little bit lower profile so I'll have to figure out what that does for the fuel mileage rating and what having good tires on does for that matter. 34,762 miles is what I got out of the original stock tires. There was a little bit left before the wear bar, but not much.

40K service performed at KMH Automotive. Keith the owner seems to keep a clean, well organized shop. He also seems to be quite knowledgeable and helpful. After having Rich at Last Chance Garage move out of the area I had to find a new mechanic and I'm glad I picked KMH Automotive. I think it will work out well.

8-16-13 39083 miles on odometer. I was finally present and thinking about the flip or zeroing of the long range information in the trip computer, the number two setting. It flipped and reset at 100 hours of driving, the mileage was 3815 average fuel consumption was 50.5 mpg, average speed 38 mph. I'm going to assume that this has now happened 10 times with a bit of variance on the speed and fuel efficiency, but that I have basically driven the car for about 1,000 hours more or less.
