I am guessing that the last fuel up was a short fill caused by this cars ability to blowback fuel at the pump.Hence the apparent high fuel consumtion this time despite no indication that fuel consumption was going to be poor.

Style of driving dictates fuel consumption. Trying to be smooth and predictive has yeilded almost 20% better fuel consumption. I now understand why it is that some drivers just will not believe the manufacturers claimed fuel figures whilst other drivers seem to be able to improve on the manufacturers figures.
