Scrub-A-Dub full synthetic oil change @55,500 miles, 1 week before Solo Nats. Used Mobil 1 filter for 1st time ever ($15 more than OE filter). Even though it had only been around 3,000 miles since the last oil change, the oil got slightly dirty and 1/2 qt low in the last 2 weekends from traveling 1,200mi to the UP of MI, and to Indiana to autocross in almost 100 degree temps, basically hot lapping the car w/two drivers for almost 100 runs over 4 days!

48,400 miles, Kristin's good friend Henry Debrowski helped me change the wheels from the winter storage set to last year's comp RE71r's. Fronts were bald, but I had 2 new ones on hand, so I took the car to Rich's auto service on Bluemound & Hawley, but they couldn't mount them. I spent 1.5 hrs there, and gave the kid $20 cash for trying. I'll have to run this Sunday's MSCC event on nearly corded fronts (if the coronaphobic waitlist gets expanded from 50 to 100 and I'm included).

Jul 27 2015

Purchased a new endlink kit for my Small Fortune Racing solid sway bar from Bill Gendron for $95 using PayPal. The 5 year old originals had developed just enough play in them this past year to cause subtle but annoying "clunks" over uneven pavement, and I can't take it anymore LOL.

Apr 23 2015

Bought a set of the new Bridgestone RE-71R tires from Tirerack today to get the $70 rebate that ends this month, since I will need them for Nationals this summer. These are the "must have" tire in 2015 for SCCA autocross, as multiple accounts put them ~1 second faster than all the other top tires on a 60 second course. That is huge. I now have two sets of tires for 2015: these, and my current fronts (245/40/17 Dunlop Z2 non-StarSpec) that were new for Nationals Sept '14, and the brand new rears (255/40/17 Hankook RS-3 V2) I bought this month and first ran at event #1 April 19th 2015. The Bridgestones will be used only for big events, or rain. Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R - 245/40/17 Fronts for $181 each. 255/40/17 Rears for $197 each. $55 shipping, minus $70 rebate, equals $741.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER FOR A SIMPLE OIL CHANGE .... I tried using a $12.95 oil change coupon I got in the mail from a Honda dealership. The only exclusions in the fine print were for "hybrids and trucks", and my Honda car is neither. I even called ahead the day before to get an exact price quote (the coupon said "synthetic oil additional", which my car does need), and I was quoted $39.95+fees. .... When I arrived, the service advisor who helped me, Kim Linder, became argumentative when I presented the coupon and my price quote. I explained to her that I had received the quote the day before, but she simply would not believe me. I asked her to ask the parts manager, who had given me the quote. She just continued arguing instead. When she finally did leave and come back, she confirmed the $39.95 price, but had the rudest attitude I've ever experienced in a service environment. I then was kept waiting for well over 60 minutes for my "30 minutes or less express oil change" (which I even had an appointment for), and it still wasn't until I approached another advisor (since Kim wasn't around) and asked how long it would be that Kim came out with my keys. .... Bottom line: saving $20 or $30 on a synthetic oil change that I only get done 4 times a year is not nearly enough savings to have to deal with this kind of unprofessionalism. And, it turns out she is the ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER. How in the...? .... Never, ever will I be going to Russ Darrow Honda in Milwaukee again. David Hobbs, Acura of Brookfield, or Schlossman's Honda City will be getting my business. Hell, Jiffy Lube is a 10 times better option.

Valve adjustment performed at Acura of Brookfield. There was some engine lag/hesitation at lower RPM recently, and this fixed it. Power delivery is now smooth again. Hopefully this improves my FE as well!

Oct 12 2014

Softened front bar back to 4.5/6 from 5/6 at final autocross of 2014 with Bertrand. The car was super pushy at 5/6, even with the new scrubbed in front tires. It still had push during steady state cornering after the change, so I will likely be going to 4/6 once the new rear tires go on for next season.

Oct 9 2014

Mounted new front tires (same as last pair: 245/40/17 Dunlop ZII's), and stiffened the front bar from 4.5/6 to 5/6 in anticipation of additional front grip. I will be replacing the mostly worn out rear 275/40/17 Toyo R1R's (140TW) in spring, as they will be illegal in SCCA Street classes starting Jan 1st, 2015. The new treadwear limit is 200.
