I got that 18.1 mpg today by driving relatively slow from Marfa to Fort Davis, across the Davis Mountains west to east, continuing on the Balmorhea and Fort Stockton. Never once taking the truck over 65mph and trying to keep the 4:30 rear end and transmission below 2000 rpm. 60 to 65 is this trucks sweet spot and unladen, over mountains on a hot 100' day with a soft foot it is possible to make good mpg for a 1ton truck.
