Mar 14 2010

All new suspension. Bilstein TCs, stock springs, bushings, bearings, bolts, etc etc etc, custom tune from F1tuning. Total cost; parts, labor, and tune ~$1,100 Car definitely rides a lot different. Rear struts were blown out, bushing were in bad shape. Maybe a little stiffer than what I was expecting, but it's very nice to not be such a boat cruising down the highway.

Jul 18 2009

Fixed rear alignment problems by shimming left rear spindle about 1mm at the top, right rear by about 2.5mm at the top. Probably not the best practice, but about all I can afford right now. Unstuck the right rear e-brake, by looking at my mileage recently, it obviously wasn't sticking much at all, but there was quite a bit more brake dust on the wheel versus other rear wheel, and it felt quite a bit hotter after any driving. Finally, had walmart install 4 new Goodyear Fuel Max tires on the NB wheels for the summer. Size 205-55-16. $105 each + $7.50 per tire for installation.

Jul 2 2009

Had Aaron (Growler on TDIclub) swap the timing belt (new 100k belt kit), clean the intake manifold, adjust my turbo actuator, and install a S/T racepipe as my EGR was "puking" oil onto my valve cover. While in there he also replaced one of the motor mount kinda things, changed the gear oil, found the brake booster vacuum line to be cracked (replaced it a couple of days later), and got me a new fuel filter "T". Total cost: $1,150 for Aaron, ~$50 for the brake booster line.
