Nov 15 2014

The car was serviced during this tankful. The start/stop had never worked very well, they said that they had replaced the battery to solve the problem. No such luck, as it still doesn't work. While doing this the computer was cleared and by the time that I got it back there was 10 miles at 35.6 mpg. God only knows what they had done to it before the clearance. At a cost of £39.93 they had supplied two spark plugs, which seems to have only resulted in inferior running. I think that I would be better with the old ones back. The pollen filter costs as much as the air and oil filters, the three of them adding £100 to the bill. I have filled with Shell yet again, but I would be surprised if I can manage anywhere near my usual consumption.

Using Shell again even though the gain in mileage was only about 4 mpg, and the reason for that could have involved a number of other factors.

I am trying Shell fuel this time. Some people say that the petrol is totally uniform whilst others would maintain that certain brands have an advantage in consumption and performance. I will try it for myself and see.

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of sense in conserving fuel, the car is unwilling to comply. I have increased acceleration and speed (in each gear as well as overall top speed) it doesn't seem to have made a great deal of difference to consumption. For those running the diesel version, there is a difference of stated mpg of about 5, but in actual usage the difference increases to 10.
