Vehicle put in to Otto's Tues the 15th in prep to begin work Wed 16th. Expected to be 2 days, rented Mercedes @ Turo (UGH!) Picked up vehicle Sat Sep 19th. Warranty covered most of the work that has been completed - Thrust rod bushings, turbo oil lines, control arms, alignment. I had to cover initial inspection, extra diagnosis fee of t-case, and t-case fluid change mandated by warranty company as an interim step in final determination of whether t-case actually needs replacement. My share $746, warranty paid $4866, W/) remains open pending 300km+ of driving with new t-case fluid before re-evaulating

Sep 2 2020

Vehicle submitted for thorough final inspection at 129541km Sep 2nd, just prior to warranty expiry @131000km/Sep 18th Otto's found issues with alignment, thrust rod bushings, lower control arm/ball joint play, oil lines to turbos leaking some oil into engine valley. As well I requested they check and inspect (for additional diagnostic 1 hr labor fee), a slight driveline shudder/tire chatter when accelerating slowly from dead stop while also having wheel turned. Suspected possible transfer case issue, had been already preparing to change fluid. Also noted was uneven outer edge wear on front tires, attributed to loose suspension components and alignment. Battery tested @43%, recommended replacement, I will do myself. Observed air and cabin filters dirty, I will replace myself, already planned in prep for winter. Oddly, rattle clips missing from both rear calipers, I installed personally in Feb/March...will have to replace.

Tonight after work got the "1L low" oil notification from the iDrive, @130200km. Has been driven ~ 1100km since adding Liqui Moly Oil saver. My impression had been that consumption and occasional blue smoke after periods of idling had been reduced, but the mileages I have recorded seem not to show improvement - will continue to monitor, LM says it takes 500-1000 miles to see results (800-1600km). Topped up with 1L Pennzoil 5w40 synthetic the following morning before leaving for Smiths Falls

2nd drain and refill of power steering fluid. About 1000km drive since 1st exchange. Used balance of 1st bottle and ~700ML of 2nd bottle (~1L total this time vs 700ml 1st) Fluid removed was much clearer than the 1st round

Ordered 2 bottles Oil Saver from FCP Euro when I got the Arnott air bags. Rec'd Approx Aug 10. Oil had been changed July 15 using heavier 5W40 synthetic in an effort to reduce consumption, but this seems not to have helped - oil was down a touch less than 1 L by this point - topped up with 2 bottles (600ml) of the Oil Saver and 300 ml 5w40 Pennzoil Synthetic @ ~ 129100km

Received set of 4 black sapphire metallic comfort access handles from Schmiedman in Denmark last week. Cost of handles was $65 USD included complete harness. Total cost after shipping and duties was $200 CDN. Otto's had claimed swapping known good handles into the two locations that were not functioning resolved the problems, and verified vehicle electronics were OK. Pass side rear handle swapped with replacement with complete success. Leaves me one spare tested functional handle for Pass side, but has a small scratch in the paint that might buff out. On Drivers side front door, handle was taped to harness, harness disconnected, discovered broken pin in connector of vehicle harness. Otto's COULD NOT have tested a known good handle in this location. Raised the issue with David Young, service manager at Otto's. Brought vehicle in, David involved another person whose name I didn't get. He spent more time deflecting and defending than actually listening. I was not seeking any compensation, just awareness and future confidence in tech diagnoses. Came away unsatisfied. Will splice in connector from used harness. See additional info in invoices and pictures.

122500 km - Rear air bags replaced due to "Level Control System Malfunction" message. Not covered by extended warranty. Dealer quote was ~ 2500 (3 hrs labor + 749/bag + tax). I bought 2 bags with lifetime warranty for $182 and did the R&R myself in EXACTLY 1 hour for $30 DIY shop charge for hoist use. During diagnosis shop discovered leaky rear pinion seal which WAS covered by warranty - rear seal replaced and differential refilled with new OEM fluid. Had shop investigate / diagnose Comfort access handles at this time - shop quoted for 2 handles at $465 + tax each. Ordered complete used set from Denmark (Schmiedman). See future note for update...
